Mother of the Bride in Brisbane

MOB in Brisbane

Where to go in Brisbane for a Mother of the Bride outfit? For nearly a year I have been trying to find a store in Brisbane that sells Mother of the Bride outfits that suit me. I am not picky, but I do not want to look like an old matron. I thought I had found a store, Living Silk. But the store in the Wintergarden was closed and their only other store in Paddington was so busy and their stock was depleted. The one staff member who was attending for than 5 customers at a time (poor honey was trying hard) had no outfits that suited me. I had looked online first and all the outfits were out of stock or had colours that didn't suit. I ended up leaving in frustration, along with 3 other customers.

Then I went online, yet again to source information about where I could actually go into a real store and try on clothes. I am off to Racecourse Road this Saturday with my daughter. I was hoping to avoid this, firstly although my daughter means well, she doesn't have a clue about what I prefer.

I am not lithe in stature. I am 5 foot 4inches. Over 50 years of age. I wear a size 14 -16 clothes. I am pretty average. But where are the stores that want to take my money. Come on, I know I am going to have to spend several hundred dollars. I visited Myers ( of course I did I have a Myercard) no luck. I would have to be size 10 or aged 20 -30 to carry off any of those fashions. David Jones, well let us just say, the cat's bum faced person who looked down her nose at me and then said, " I don't know if we have that in a size 18. Well I am not going back there. Plus there was nothing worth the effort for a return insult.

I looked in most stores around my suburb. Of course it is still a bit cool at present and there are not that many summery outfits in the stores. My daughter's wedding is in November. As Mother of the Bride I was supposed to have had my outfit already so the Groom's mother could choose her outfit after me (or so the book says). But the Groom's Mum (who I adore) was faster off the blocks than me. It helped her cause being a size 10, more choice for the slimmer lady. Well I figure that I am an average over 50 girl, with an event that many ladies of my generation have in their lives. So where is the specialized store in Brisbane? Oh yes, I forgot I also visited a couple of designer stores. Gorgeous, but not in my bank budget. I really don't want to shop online for this special outfit. Although some of the outfits I have checked out online, whether it is eBay or just googling Mother of the Bride have been overseas. UK and America and of course China. The postage is excessive and there is the worry of the outfit not suiting you once you receive it. What to do? Has anyone else had these problems. Maybe you could tell me what stores you visited in Brisbane. Or maybe there is a second hand special events dress store. Asking around I found out I am not the only MOB that is having this problem.. I am thinking of starting my own store specializing in special events for the over 40 year old.

Suki..you put all of your Hub Content in the Comments section. What you should do is copy it, go to "My Account" click on your Hub, on the top hit the 'Edit" button and then paste it into a Text Capsule! After the content is in there scroll to the top and click "Done Editing".

Each Hubpage is like its own stand alone webpage, that has a blog like comment section for user responses and conversation with the writer.

Hope thats clear,

Great News!!! I have found my dress. My daughter (The Bride) dragged me kicking and screaming to the hairdressers Saturday and had my hair coloured and styled. The hair colour is a highlighted deep strawberry blonde. The style is a long bob that I found of Jessica Simpson. This gave us the idea of the ideal colour for my Mother of the Bride dress. The dress is a deep jade green the designer is Veronika Maine. It is a simple style and very flattering. The dress comes with a black belt. So we have teamed the dress with a Veronika Maine evening jacket. Now we start hunting for shoes for my wide ungainly feet. At least we are on the way. And thanks for all the help Megan (my gorgeous daughter) and the girls at the Veronika Maine store in Chermside Brisbane. On the thanks trail, Big big thanks to Erin at Vanilla Salon in James Street Fortitude Valley. The big day is November 6th at the Marriott Hotel in Brisbane. I am getting very excited now. All the frustrations are dissipated. Big sigh!!

Loved this dress, but the only colours were in black (not suitable for this wedding) and pink (the same colour that the Mother of the Groom has already chosen)
